ABOUT ME

My name is Michellene (Hing) Sigurdson. I was born and currently reside in Vancouver, BC Canada. I’ve been honing my photography skills for the past ten years. I started by photographing art exhibitions and noticed that I found it more interesting observing people appreciating the art than the artwork itself. I then started making photo stories of the exhibitions by also including photographs of the patrons admiring the artworks.

Recently, I’ve ventured into sports photography/filming. Specifically, I’ve been photographing and filming athletes wing foiling, kite hydrofoiling, kiteboarding, hydrofoil racing, etc., and I’ve been posting my work on my social media platforms. I enjoy being outdoors with nature, so photographing / filming athletes doing these sports is perfect for me. 

 

Then In 2021, I created a short film on kiteboarding at Spanish Banks and Locarno Beach in Vancouver BC Canada. It was shown at The Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver BC Canada in 2022 (see photo below) along with other short films. These films were funded by the RBC Emerging Artist Program and by the Canada Council for the Arts. Currently, I’m in the process of creating another short film, Sports - Art in Motion on Hydrofoiling, Kiteboarding, and Windboarding at Spanish Banks in Vancouver and Squamish(Skwxwú7mesh) BC Canada. This film will be posted onto my social media platforms in May 2023.
